Living Lies

Living a lie, a quiet lie
Smiling all day, a happy lie
Lying in bed, alone in the dark,
Crying for tomorrow, tomorrow’s lie

Argue, convince, shudder, and plead
Shower, get dressed, man up, repeat
Layer the make up, wear the mask,
And again, fucking repeat

But lie by lie, the story builds
Its brimming, with the lies you filled
The truth becomes a stinging thorn
Burning your side, leaving you chilled

Leaving you drained, there is a hole
Draining your veins, bleeding your soul
You stay awake, restless, confused,
And in you fold, inwards you fold

You pour in honeyed lies again
To ease the bitterness, in vain
At the end, the tears wash away
But the lies always remain

“There are two ways to be fooled. One is to believe what isn’t true; the other is to refuse to believe what is true.”
― Søren Kierkegaard

Oh well, I love the Picture.
The Poem is Terrifying. Love the strength you put in as words.

Bitter sweet poison we feed ourselves!! This is indeed a strong worded poem Cookie. Excellently executed with gusto xdx

    • True, David. Small wonder then, that we don’t like the aftertaste. Who else to blame but ourselves?

Thanks for reading, dear. Glad you liked this one so much. It’s a bit of a free rant. :p hugs!

Learned a long time ago that the only one you can count on to take care of you is YOU. If anyone else takes care of you that’l just icing on the cake. As for those lies…, don’t we all from time to time live in those quiet, convenient lies, Cookie? Dangerous way to live because, sooner or later, the truth always makes us pay, often in very painful ways. …But I know you don’t do this…, right? 🙂 Hugs !!

A pained tale of resilience….to be able to endure over and over and snap back.
    Nothing short of Powerful…

  5. Wonderful and beautifully written discourse.
The cycles we have created for ourselves are punishing and counterproductive.
Not many people willing to be a Light source these days…probably always been that way.
But the few who do know it’s true at any time we can renew.
Let’s not be slaves to prefabricated graves. To crave the Light our Souls we save.

The concept is very similar to a poem I wrote in 1973 after my first divorce. I reread it yesterday. At the time, I didn’t understand what I was writing. Now, I do.

However, I believe you said it better. 🙂

I can’t get enough so I’m reading old stuff. I felt this one in my very heart. Well done.
