Fair Warning

Fair Warning 

They put up fairy lights 

On the route that I take home everyday 

Usually it’s a quiet, peaceful scene 

The calm, black mirror of the lake, and

Just the breeze for company 

But tonight, there were painted faces

Jugglers, blaring music

Riotous laughter

 a city alive, in the park

I liked the paper lanterns

They were pretty 

But I wonder who else 

Missed the dark
