Leave Me

Leave me

Leave me, where you find my bones
Where the sun has beat down, where the rain has raged
Where the elements have claimed their vengeance
Battered, stripped, exposed, yes,
Leave my hollow bones behind

Leave me, where you know my breath
Lingered, in forgotten voices from yesterday
Where the echo of our laughter might yet live
For some remnant of haunted life left over
Leave my murmured breaths behind

Take your lines, your cords and veins
Unwind them from where they touched
The decay, the delusions of faith, they
Take them with you, when you go
Leave my empty veins behind

Pull away from my touch, my fingertips
Remain outstretched, but aren’t they always?
They all stop in passing, but they all leave,
So pull away, walk away, away from me
Leave my trembling hands behind.

Leave me, no, I am inconsequent,
I do not matter in this impermanence
Leave my bones, my breath, my veins
Leave my blood, yes, leave my hands
Walk on, go, leave me behind

In limbo where, smoke and ashes, I stay,
Lost lines mark out the edges that fray
Leave me behind here, walk away
Leave me behind and walk away.

The lines all intersect. Mine and yours, yours and mine, intertwine and spread away. For how long? I’m afraid that I cannot say.

As long as we are painted together, in the here and now, do we know what is painted for tomorrow? Do we know what or who we will be woven with? Nope. We don’t. You don’t. I don’t.

So what do we do?

We live today. We learn today. We love today.

Tomorrow is a thread that we haven’t followed down yet. And when tomorrow comes, you may have left me behind, but we will always, always have our part in the pattern, where our threads, and tears and our smiles entwined.

So! Stitch yourself a smile today! =)
