Going downhill..
It was just a glimpse but I
Saw us standing ‘cross the road
He was embracing her tight
Just the way that I would fold
Dappled in the noonday light,
Steepled in the buildings’ shade
While we walked the other side
The same love but hunched and aged
Years are but just one upside
Of a relationship that grew
Like a vine, with lives entwined
Within the hearts of me and you..
From glowing to a little blind
Running free to joint joint pains
From babies to chubby grand kids
Living our childhoods again.
And just like that, they were seated
Honeymoons and bags and pills
Past and present, smiling on a
Tram slowly rolling downhill…

Thank you! The photo was part of the DP challenge. The layers in the photo are quite fascinating! It’s very open to interpretation. Glad you liked mine. 🙂

Great poem! I particularly like the last two lines.
By the way, the picture of the cat in the top left hand corner of your blog made me smile. He looks just like a beautiful cat called Tom that I had from ages 4 – 14. I was so upset when he died. He was special!

Hello Grace (what a blessed name by the way) 🙂
Thank you, I’m glad you liked the poem. I just added the picture since it looks so much like my Athena. 🙂 I’m really sorry about Tom. I lost a dog last year so I know what it’s like to lose a companion.
Do check out the other poems, you might like them.
Hope you have a great day! 🙂

Thanks! I love my name. 😀
It was nearly six years ago that I lost Tom. We had such a special bond and he was so patient with me when I was a little girl. I used to dress him up in doll’s clothes and he would just sit there tolerantly.
Have a wonderful weekend. 🙂

My friend, this is exquisite. My favorite of yours so far. You mentioned how you wished you could do more flowing free verse. Your poetry here is so natural, subliminal, synched to the picture/image, one hardly notices it. I had to go back and see if you actually used rhyme! I feel it combines the best of poetry/rhyme and free verse. The cadence flows as well, with the rhyming words falling not so much to make the rhyme stand out (which can become too much), but to pull us in to your most lovely vision through words.

Thank you John, I’m happy that you liked it. 🙂 I did not anticipate that so many people would. It’s a rather quiet poem, oftentimes they just fade into the background, but I’m glad it didn’t, lol. The rhyming scheme is a wee bit different too, but I have a long, long way to go before I can write good free verse. That’s not to say I haven’t tried, but the ‘good’ part remains debatable. 😛

What a lovely poem and a great tribute to the picture. I loved how it flowed with the simplicity of life, no airs and graces, just the simple love of life and what it has to offer.

Thank you Lizzbeth. 🙂 in the end, isn’t that simple love the one thing we truly need?
Thank you for liking, by the way. Hope you enjoy the others too. 🙂

CM, there’s so much about this picture that is such an allegory of life…, up, down, young, middle, old, sunlight, shadow, and your poem wonderfully captures the entire mood of it.

Hello Paul. 🙂 You’re right, it is a beautiful picture. I still haven’t perfected translating images to words, but probably that’s the beauty of it. Everyone finds a new dimension that appeals to them, from the same photograph. I’m glad you liked my attempt. 🙂
